Now, as everyone who knows me, knows how crazy I am for the sport called Formula One. It is even on my to-do list in life…. To go to Monaco and probably watch the event from a Yacht (dare to dream). Anyways, as I was talking about my love for Formula One.
Today was the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang. I love the circuit for sentimental reasons. My darling, sweetheart racer, Kimi Raikkonen won his first grand prix here. So that is why I call it sentimental. Yeah, so today was the day for this year’s Malaysian Grand Prix and an avid watcher, I had plans of catching the event LIVE on TV. To my horror, the cable guy switched channels and there was no sign on Star Sports. I made repeated calls. I believe, the lady who picked up the phone would remember me as PLOT NO.26, MANI ENCLAVE. Nevertheless, she said it was coming n I had to tune the channel. Tried many times, it comes but all blurred. Massa looks like Raikkonen on screen by all accounts. No fun watching the race without the commentary. Increase the volume n it goes SHRRRRRRRRRRR….
NERVE WRECKING. I had to coax my dad into calling up the cable people. He shouts real well at people. It’s something that I hopelessly suck at. So he calls them up once and gives them an earful. I am hopeful that they would rectify the problem soon but no. I wait half an hour and yet, nothing. Getting more irritated, I ask dad to call them up again and he says, “they are looking into the problem and will rectify it soon. Give them some time.” TIME MY FOOT. I wanna catch the race and unable to do so, I’m turning into a mean grouch. Don’t say anything but action speaks louder than words, isn’t it?? Looking back now, I think dad was right. But then again, when he said those very words, I was like, “Right dad. Let’s see you sit so calm when India is playing well and you are not able to catch the match.” He is as fidgety as I was today.
Unable to do anything, I log on to the net for some consolation. Searching for the DTH options, Tata Sky et al and getting info on those. I also begin to think of ways to pacify dad to buy it. It’s on the back of his mind, but is refraining thinking that me and sister will sink further into the couches and become rotten potatoes. I think he needs to have more faith in us, in that regard.
But yeah. Unable to do anything, getting info on DTH options, and the frustration of missing it all LIVE is taking its toll on me and what do I do??? What else?? CRY. Although I refrain from doing it all in front of my folks, cos I know their reaction. I would end up getting a good class. But I cudnt help it. Cos I am truly, madly, deeply into the sport. I live and breathe F1.That’s just me. But that phase goes and I find a site called f1-live.com where I can find all the info of what’s happening on the circuit, LIVE, only thing it is a lap by lap written account of the highlights and the detailed board showing driver standing, pit stops etc throughout the various sections of the race. Some consolation. But in the end, I am still the same and I hope next week I can catch the grand prix without any hitch.
